I am Karolyn. I wanted to help normal, everyday people like you and me to find what they are searching for in life so in 2008 founded Life Search. I've been providing counselling to support, equip and empower people ever since.
If you are reading this page I guess you are at least a bit curious to know what sort of counsellor I might be?
To answer this I think I need to let you know some of the things that have most influenced my life and work as a mental health practitioner.
I have had the privilege to travel and live in a number of countries and enjoyed sharing in many cultural experiences. This continues to influence my appreciation of every person, for their past, who they are today and the knowledge this brings to their life story.
My past has encouraged me to take my own emotional and spiritual journey of personal growth. This motivates my passion to empower and equip people to reach for their own potential and achieve their goals and dreams.
I have a wholistic approach when counselling, and integrate various therapeutic modalities depending on each client's individual needs.
These Include:

I know that it is not always easy to make change and sometimes growth and healing is a tough journey… It takes kindness to self and patience, as well as determination to grow through our hurt and pain, to achieve healing.
My academic training is in Social Science, Counselling, Assessments, Chaplaincy and Ministry. My skills reflect this through my years of experience helping and mentoring individuals and families. I've encouraged many people through their toughest challenges, providing the strategies, knowledge and skills they needed for their specific circumstances to encourage personal growth and healing.
My professional principals and ethical standards are founded in a Christian / Biblical worldview. I am a member of the Australian New Zealand Mental Health Association.

It was 2012 and I was called and asked to help a virtual stranger!
This started me and my friend on an interesting journey into a world that we previously had no knowledge of.
I started a counselling ministry with Filipino women in Singapore with Rosie and a few volunteers. Meeting these women and listening to their stories was incredibly hard for us because we felt helpless to do anything except to encourage them to hold onto their faith. However each time we visit them, the women would be excited to see us and tell us how much they appreciated our words of encouragement and the acceptance we showed them. We learned that much of the pain being experienced by these women began back at home with their image and confidence as children.
"How can you stop this from happening more?" Was the question we asked ourselves.
Well this question started us on a journey of talking with locals in the Phillipines, to understand the road that these women have taken. There are no words to describe my wonder at the beauty of the people and places everywhere we went. There was such incredible warmth and acceptance. We met so many wonderful people who quickly became friends and who were willing to open their homes and share stories of hope with us. There were also stories of horror, pain and discouragement. This experience has been life changing for me, everyday increasing my love for people and their stories. I now have a lifelong and true appreciation of the strength, courage and commitment of these people who have a heart to serve others and love God with everything they have.
Rosie and I co-authored and published (2018) a children's book to support the families in the Phillipines to raise confident children who can rely on God to build their lives. The book is bi-lingual in Tagalog and English and is available now as both a physical and digital book.
